my first novel 'The Blood Connection'
It was years ago that I wrote my first novel, but I still vividly remember the moment I saw it on Amazon.
The creation of the Dark Urban Fantasy universe, set in contemporary England, was a tremendous amount of fun. This was my first experience with long-form creative writing, and it will always hold a special place in my heart.
Would I write it differently now? Structurally, that's probably true. But I wouldn't change the heart of it or the actions of the characters at all. I might ramp up the drama and introduce more complications, but the fundamental story would stay the same.
I have a few stories that are still a work in progress and are patiently waiting for me to go back to them. And one day, I will.
As Syd Field (Hollywood screenwriter) wrote: 'I've learnt there are two or three times during a lifetime when something happens that alters the course of that life. We met someone, go somewhere, or do something we've never done before, and those moments are the possibilities that guide us to where we're supposed to go and what we're supposed to do with our lives'.
My first novel is the project that began my filmmaking adventure, which has been a journey of discovery and personal growth. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that one day I'll see the characters from this story on screen: werewolves, vampires, mages, and witches.
